Where to Eat in Portland, ME

Tandem Coffee

Whether you’re planning a day trip to Portland or heading up for a long weekend, there’s plenty to do in the coastal New England city, and most importantly: eat. Just under two hours from Boston, Portland is an easy getaway for us city dwellers and after hearing so many good things about the city, I finally took a trip up and spent a few days adventuring (but mostly eating).

8 Restaurants to Try in Portland, ME

The Honey Paw

A nondenominational noodle bar in downtown Portland, The Honey Paw was started by the chefs of Eventide and is oh so delicious. I highly recommend the fry bread and assorted pickles to start.

Serving locally sourced foods when they’re at their peak of flavor, every meal at Union is absolutely delicious. The restaurant is attached to The Press Hotel and has a rustic, modern design.

Fore Street

A must visit when visiting Portland! Reservations at Fore Street fill up very quickly so I highly recommend making them as far in advance as possible. If you can’t get a reservation, they do keep 1/3 of the restaurant open for walk-ins. We ended up sitting at the bar for an appetizer!

Tandem Coffee

Wake up with a cup of coffee and delicious pastries! Tandem Coffee has two locations in Portland, making it easy to visit the unique coffee house no matter where you are in the city. I personally recommend the Congress Street location, where the coffee house and bakery is in an old gas station turned laundry mat turned coffee shop.

Saltwater Grille

A little out of the way (but a must if you are visiting with a car!), Saltwater Grille is situated on the marina on the other side of downtown Portland. The seafood is delicious and the views are stunning.

The Portland Hunt & Alpine Club

Scandinavian-inspired food and delicious cocktails, The Portland Hunt & Alpine Club is the perfect spot to enjoy a pre-dinner drink and appetizer.

Blythe & Burrows

Hands-down one of the coolest cocktail bars I’ve probably ever stepped foot in! The entire staff was extremely friendly, the food was delicious, and the vibe is amazing. Order the pork belly bao!

The Holy Donut

A Portland must, The Holy Donut is known for it’s delicious handmade donuts that are made from Maine potatoes. Who would have thought!

Becky’s Diner

If you’re looking for a good diner breakfast in Portland, look no further! Becky’s is absolutely delicious, has the diner vibes we all know and love, and they serve mimosas.
