what to pack for savannah

From the beautiful architecture and Spanish moss draped tree-lined streets to shops, restaurants, and historical landmarks, Savannah has everything you would need for a weekend vacation. And after years of telling myself I would plan a trip to the historic southern city, I’ve finally packed my bags and explored everything Savannah has to offer.

If you’re in the same boat as I was and finally booked your own trip to Savannah but aren’t sure what exactly you should pack for your weekend getaway, I have your back! Whether you’re heading down for a week of R+R, exploring, a girls trip, or something in between, you can easily pack for three days in a carry on.

What to Pack for a Weekend in Savannah

It’s no secret that Savannah is hot, especially during the summer months, so the key to packing and figuring out outfits is to rely on this one rule: less is more. Think flowy dresses, lightweight materials, and comfy shoes for walking. To keep your packing to a minimum, opt for pieces that can easily be transitioned from day to night! For me, this usually means a neutral color palette or selecting pieces that can be layered to create a new look in just seconds.

No matter what time of the year it is, dresses are always a must when visiting Savannah! Whenever I visit a southern (or coastal!) city, I always take advantage by packing my favorite patterned dresses like this one and this one. They’re fun but still look put together and can easily be styled with sneakers for a day of exploring and a cute pair of sandals for meals. To break it up, I’ll always pack a solid color option! They’re easier to dress down for the day and dress up for the night.

Abercrombie Cinched Neck Slip Dress

Abercrombie has really stepped it up the last few years and this dress is no exception. I love the pattern of this midi dress and the cinched neck adds a fun detail. Pair it with a comfy pair of sandals or your favorite sneakers for exploring during the day or with a pair of heeled sandals for dinner!

Comfy Shoes

The great thing about Savannah is how walkable it is and how much there is to see! The downside is that means a lot of walking. When packing for your trip, make sure you pack comfy shoes that you know you can spend all day in. I always opt to wear my sneakers when I’m traveling to save space in my suitcase for other shoes I’ll need once I get to my destination.

Vince Camuto Elanndo Square Toe Flats

I hadn’t owned a pair of flats in years until I picked up these gorgeous flats this past spring and let me tell you – they are perfect for travel. They’re affordable, require no breaking in, and are so soft and flexible so even on the days it’s super hot and your feet are swollen, they’ll still fit! Love these paired with a dress or sneakers.

I don’t think it’s necessary to pack a different bag for every outfit you pack when traveling, but it is fun to be able to switch things up depending on your outfit and what you have planned! For Savannah, a simple tote (I love this one!) is sufficient for exploring during the day and if you have space in your suitcase, I highly recommend packing a fun bag for nights out! A good clutch can really pull together an outfit.

KAYU Colbie Tote

This tote is my obsession. It’s cute, it’s well made, it’s not crazy expensive, and it’s the perfect size. It also comes in cream if you wear lighter colors (which I also own!).
