It might be spring but the weather isn’t completely reflecting the season just quite yet but that’s not stopping me from incorporating spring pieces into my rotation. Don’t get me wrong – I love all of the chunky sweaters and wearing leggings 24/7. I’m just ready to switch it up, incorporate some color into my wardrobe, and wear some of my favorite spring and summer pieces. Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be a struggle and it might make you want to purchase an entirely new wardrobe but I can’t recommend shopping your own closet first. That means incorporating in those lightweight fabrics and spring colors from the back of your closet! To help make the transition easier, I’m sharing some tips for transitioning your wardrobe to spring.
Tips for Transitioning Your Wardrobe to Spring
Need a little extra help mixing and matching your winter and spring pieces? My number one tip is to not overcomplicate the process. Consider the look you’re going for and opt for timeless pieces, this will give you a look that looks like it was meant for this exact in-between timeframe.
Layer Your Favorite Pieces
When transitioning your winter wardrobe for spring, layers will be your best friend, especially on those chilly days. Lightweight sweaters, cardigans, and jackets are all great places to start. Try pairing a cardigan over a slinky camisole or pair your favorite sweatshirt and jeans combo with a trench coat. A blazer (love this one!) is also a great piece to replace your heavy jackets with.
Keep Your Outfit Balanced
While the temperatures might be warming up, pairing your puffer jacket with an eyelet wrap dress is going to look a little silly. Keep your outfit balanced by pairing like items together and opt for layers and lighter colors to give you warmth and a springtime touch.
Lean Into Lighter Colors
While dark colors can certainly be worn throughout the year, opting for lighter colors as you transition your wardrobe from winter to spring will breathe new life into your outfit, no matter how many layers you’re wearing.
Spring is all about neutrals, pastel tones, and floral patterns! Instead of grabbing a black sweater grab a cream one instead.
Take Advantage of Dresses
Dresses are one of those items you can wear all year round, with the right layers. As you transition your wardrobe from winter to spring, pull out some of your shorter dresses to pair with your favorite motto or denim jacket. I’m also a sucker for a good mini dress/over-the-knee boot combo with an oversized jacket. Still warm enough for those colder days but allows you to incorporate some spring elements into the mix.
Swap Out Your Denim
An easy way to brighten your wardrobe is to swap out darker wash denim for lighter washes. Levi’s does a great job with lighter-wash jeans that aren’t too light. If you don’t have many neutral sweaters in your closet, try pairing a black sweater with lighter-wash jeans and flats (these ones are my favorite!) for a chic look that’s seasonally appropriate.
The Best Winter-to-Spring Transitional Pieces
If you’re in the mood to shop or simply want to give your wardrobe a little refresh as we transition into spring, the best pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe are pieces that can be layered, investment-worthy shoes, and a fun bag or two!
