The Wayfinder Hotel Review

Wayfinder Hotel Review

Newport, Rhode Island is one of my favorite places in New England but I don’t visit it as much as I would like. Just a little over an hour outside of Boston, the beautiful coastal city has SO much to offer from museums and shopping to water activities and some of the most delicious restaurants. Whether you go down for the day, a weekend, or plan a week-long trip, there’s something for everyone. It had been a while since my last visit and after drooling over The Wayfinder Hotel for what felt like forever, I decided to plan a little trip and experience the hotel for myself.

The Wayfinder Hotel Review

The Hotel

Re-opening in 2020, The Wayfinder Hotel brings a fresh take to Newport. The hotel has a very coastal meets mid-century modern design that I instantly fell in love with. The second I stepped into the hotel, I felt like I was in a magazine.

Note: Since the hotel went through a massive remodel and re-opened in 2020, The Wayfinder Hotel is still working through some updates so it’s only going to get better with time!

When you first enter the hotel, you’re greeted by a gorgeous lobby area with plenty of seating to enjoy the company of family and friends, get work done, or just relax. There are also two ways you can check in and out of the hotel; the first is through the amazing staff or via tablets that are in the lobby area. You can even assign yourself your own room key, which I thought was really cool.

The hotel also puts a large emphasis on community and throughout the hotel, you will find furniture, soaps, art, and more all designed by local makers. In the lobby area, you’re also able to shop these makers with items for purchase including The Wayfinder Hotel merchandise (t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.), soaps and candles, gifts for your pet, and more.

Geared towards all types of travelers, The Wayfinder Hotel has plenty to explore and is both family and pet-friendly (pet fee is $50/night), which is AMAZING! The hotel has a fabulous outdoor pool and patio area, an on-site restaurant and cafe, and a huge parking lot that is free of charge!

The Wayfinder Hotel Amenities

  • Complimentary wi-fi
  • Free parking
  • 3,000+ square feet of event space
  • Dog-friendly (!!!)
  • On-site restaurant and cafe
  • Room service
  • Seasonal, outdoor pool (with cocktail service!)
  • Outdoor party deck with games

The on-site restaurant, Nomi Park, is such a great hangout and serves brunch and dinner, and has a full bar!

The Rooms

In total, The Wayfinder Hotel has 197 oversized guest rooms and 30 deluxe suites, complete with sitting rooms and wet bars. Just like the lobby and public spaces, the guest rooms have the same coastal, mid-century modern feel to them and feature art and toiletries from local Newport makers.

During my stay, I stayed in a double queen bedroom, which was about 320 square feet. It featured a gorgeous pendant light over a table and chair (perfect for getting work done!), a gorgeous console table and TV, and a fully stocked mini-bar.

The beds were SO comfortable and I was swooning over the table lamp between the two beds. Even though the room was very simple, it still felt cozy and comfortable.

I loved the small table in the room, too! It was perfect for getting work done in the mornings before I headed off to explore downtown Newport. The mini bar also had a lot of great options (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) that are also sourced locally and are at great price points, which you don’t see often!

The Location

The Wayfinder Hotel is about a five-minute drive from downtown Newport, which I honestly wasn’t expecting. While I don’t know the area too well, when I looked at a map I thought it was right in the downtown area. I did have my car with me and I was on a solo stay so the drive was totally fine but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re visiting from out of town/don’t have a car – you’ll definitely have to Uber/Lyft places!

With that being said, the drive is so easy so if you don’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of downtown, want to spend time in Jamestown (or other areas throughout Rhode Island!), or want something a little more low-key, The Wayfinder Hotel is such a great option!

If you’re planning to visit the Newport Mansions, the drive from the hotel is about 10 minutes!
