We technically have a few weeks before the official start to summer but after the 90°+ temperatures this past week, it’s officially summer in my book. Which means…. Shorts, dresses, sleeveless tops, and lightweight fabrics.
But you know what item is my least favorite to wear (and shop for!)? Shorts.
Shopping for shorts is a task I dread year after year and I’m not the only one. Finding that “unicorn” pair feels almost impossible and the process of trying on hundreds of pairs of shorts can really get you feeling down about your body. I think we can all agree that crying in a fitting room is never fun. After years of forcing myself into denim shorts (a style I love but can never seem to find the right fit), I’ve decided to take a page from my own book and find the best non-denim shorts (I did this with pants this spring!).
When it comes to non-denim bottoms and easy-breezy pieces, I always find myself scrolling through the LOFT website. Between the LOFT clothing line and the Lou & Grey pieces they carry, there are so many great options. (Remember these wide-leg pants? LOFT!) One of my recent finds? These shorts!
They’re made from Lyocell so they’re super soft and thanks to the elasticized waist, they’re comfy enough to wear all day (including sitting at my desk for hours on end!). One of the biggest struggles I usually face with shorts is having to size up so they fit my thighs and since I opt for a high-waist fit, sometimes there’s just too much material and I look like I’m swimming in them. These shorts (thankfully) come in regular and petite sizing so I went with my normal size but in petite and they fit perfectly.
More non-denim shorts I’m eyeing:
