The Best Coffee Shops in Boston

the best coffee shops in boston

I’ve always enjoyed taking advantage of all the coffee shops throughout Boston, whether it’s to grab a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat, meeting a friend, or getting work done but ever since I started working from home last year, I’ve been appreciating them even more.

Even on the days that I have a fully stocked fridge, I still find myself taking time to go on a walk to our local coffee shop to get coffee. It gives me a sense of normalcy and gives me the social interaction I so desperately need some days.

If you’re a local or traveling to the area and are looking for a new spot to try, these are my favorites.

The Best Coffee Shops in Boston

No trip to Boston is complete without a visit to one of Tatte’s 11 locations throughout the city. The aesthetically pleasing coffee shop has so many delicious items on its menu from baked goods to breakfast sandwiches, soups, and salads. While it is on the more expensive side, the food and drinks are definitely worth the price tag (I die for the cold brew and breakfast sandwich!) and their larger locations (Seaport, Harvard Square, Downtown Crossing) are great to work from solo or with a team!

Address: Favorite locations include 201 Washington St, Boston, MA 02108, 125 Summer St, Boston, MA 02110, 399 Boylston St, Boston, MA 02116, and 1288 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138

Blackbird Donuts

I have a weakness for a good donut and Blackbird has some of my favorites in the city! With eight classic flavors that are always on the menu, plus new flavors that come out monthly, I consider myself a frequent flyer and am always ready to try a new flavor. My favorite classic donut? The everything bagel! So delish. Their coffee is also great, but if you’re getting iced, always ask for light ice!

Address: Favorite locations include 175 Cambridge St, Boston, MA 02114 and 492 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02116

This new-to-me coffee shop in the heart of Boston’s South End neighborhood is filled with charm, delicious pastries, and the most convenient walk-up window, making it easy to grab a bite or a cup of coffee even on busy mornings. The pain au chocolate and ham and cheese croissant are drool-worthy! They also have homemade dog treats available for purchase for all of your furry friends.

Address: 123 Appleton St, Boston, MA 02116

Blue Bottle

Blue Bottle’s downtown location is absolutely amazing! Located in the lobby of the 100 Federal Street building, it’s spacious, filled with natural light, and makes for the perfect meeting location. I’m a big fan of their cold brew and cookies, a perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Address: 100 Federal Street, Boston, MA 02110

Jaho Coffee

Jaho is one of my favorite coffee shops in the city to work from – it has a great environment, there are plugs everywhere, and its menu is extensive. It’s also one of the only coffee shops I’ve found that serves coffee AND wine! The Huntington location is my preferred location just because it’s bigger so it’s easier to find a seat to work.

Address: Favorite locations include 116 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02116, and 665 Washington St, Boston, MA 02111

Caffè Nero

I have to admit that Caffè Nero isn’t anything special, but they’re reliable and have so many locations, making it convenient no matter where you are in the city. I also love that they have a lot of variation in seating from booths and window seating to lush chairs and couches.

Address: Favorite locations include 10 Summer St, Boston, MA 02110, 560 Washington St, Boston, MA 02111, and 368 Congress St, Boston, MA 02210

Bluestone Lane

After stopping into one of the Bluestone Lane locations in D.C. a few years back, I was esthetic to find out they were opening a location in Boston! Located in Harvard Square, the picturesque coffee shop has so many delicious options for breakfast and lunch and their coffee never disappoints.

Address: 27 Brattle St, Cambridge, MA 02138

George Howell

Attached to The Godfrey Hotel, the downtown George Howell location is small but mighty and is easily accessible to public transportation. With delicious coffee and yummy pastries, George Howell is one of my favorite places to enjoy a cup of coffee and get some work done when I’m downtown. Plus, the space is gorgeous and has a bunch of single and group tables to work from.

Location: 505 Washington St, Boston, MA 02111
