When Chris and I were looking for an apartment, we only had a few “must-haves” for our new space – front-facing, lots of natural light, and storage space (he has more clothes than I do). It might sound simple but it was more difficult than I thought. Alas, we found our current apartment and it’s perfectly imperfect (read: needs a lot of TLC). I knew right away there were a handful of changes we wanted to make and once we got the go-ahead from our landlord, it was all hands on deck.
The first project we wanted to tackle? Painting the walls.
Although the old walls weren’t terrible, we knew we wanted to keep all of the walls white so we could have the flexibility we wanted with furniture, decor, and to simply open the space up. We lucked out and have all white trim in through the entire apartment but the windows were going to need to be cleaned up and they painted the doors (not the trim though!!) the same color as the walls. Another project for another day. With our couch not being delivered right away, we made painting the walls our first order of business and I am so excited to be partnering with Clare for this project!
When Clare was first founded, the main priority was to create a better paint formula. All of the paints that they offer are Zero VOC and GREENGUARD Gold Certified. This means that they meet the standards for low chemical emissions, release fewer pollutants, and support healthier indoor environments. The GREENGUARD certification means that Clare meets additional health-based criteria so their pants are acceptable to be used in sensitive environments, such as schools and healthcare facilities. Clare paint is also formulates without toxic air contaminants (CATs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), and does not utilize any chemicals on the EPA chemicals of concern list. A paint company that’s all about minimizing environmental impact? Sign me up.
Even if you have a general idea of what color you want to paint the rooms in your house, finding that perfect shade can take a long time. When you throw ordering your paint online into the mix and not having easy access to paint swatches and samples, the process can get that much more overwhelming. Will I like the color? What if it comes damaged? Did I order enough?
The great thing about Clare is how easy it is to find the perfect color for your space with the help of their Color Genius tool, you’re able to find the perfect color for your home and the paint swatches are 8×8″ with a peel and stick back on them so you can see how the color will look in your space, day and night. Clare also has a paint calculator their website to help you figure out how much paint you actually need for your space. GENIUS RIGHT?!
Since Chris and I knew we wanted to paint our space white, we ordered a few white paint samples and in the end, went with Snow Day. Once we got everything ordered, our paint came in just a few days!
Now comes the fun part, actually painting our living room! After taping off the room, laying down drop cloth, and mixing the paint, we got to work. Since Clare’s paints are all fast-drying (dry to the touch in 30-60 minutes), we got the entire space down in under six hours, which was a blessing. No one wants to be wasting their weekends away painting when the weather is beautiful.
e are so happy with the entire experience painting our living room, the quality of the Clare paint, and how fast we got it all done! I think you’ll agree with me that the white walls have truly transformed the space. Now all that’s left is to decorate this space, get some furniture in it, and hang some art up on the walls 😉
