My Makeup Routine from Start to Finish

my everyday makeup tutorial

When it comes to makeup, I’m either wearing it or I’m not. There’s not really any variation in my routine unless I skip mascara or add in a little extra eyeshadow and apply some lipstick for a special event. Boring? Maybe but I like what I like and if it works, I’m not messing with it.

If you’re the same with your makeup or are looking for some good, basic products, look no further! Here’s a look at my everyday makeup routine from start to finish.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

Every once in a while, I will mix in some new-to-my products, but for the most part, most of my makeup products have been ones that have been in my rotation for at least a year, if not more. Two of the newest products in my rotation are the Ilia foundation and Ilia concealer, both of which I love for everyday wear. They provide enough coverage without being too heavy, but if/when I start going to longer events again, I’ll definitely have to incorporate a fuller coverage concealer (and a primer!) into the mix.

I know this should be one of my last steps, but for whatever reason, I always do my brows before applying the rest of my makeup. I’ve been using the Benefit Goof Proof pencil to fill in my brows for years now. I always used shade 1 but now that they have a better range of colors over the last year or so, I switched to shade 2.5. I love that it stays in place and is easy to apply.

Concealer & Foundation

I had been using the IT Cosmetics CC+ for years but after hearing how great Ilia’s products were, I was dying to give them a try. I started by switching my concealer for the Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer. I love how lightweight it is while still providing the coverage I need to combat tired eyes and any blemishes. I then swapped out my beloved IT Cosmetics CC+ for the Ilia True Skin Serum Foundation. It’s the perfect foundation for every day – lightweight, the ideal amount of coverage, and provides a nice glow.

Blush, Highlight & Bronze

Next up, I like to give myself a little color with highlighter, bronzer, and blush. I keep this routine very simple and haven’t even attempted to contour. For highlighter and bronzer, I’ve been using the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow duo. I use the palette for light to medium skin tones and love the colors – they’re vibrant enough to make a difference but aren’t overpowering! For blush, I’ve tried a few new ones lately (including Ilia’s multi-stick) but keep going back to my beloved NARS powder blush. I just can’t say no! I use color ‘deep throat.’

To finish off my face makeup, I like to set it with a setting powder to help keep it in place and reduce any extra shine. My current favorite is the Laura Mercier loose setting powder. I typically just purchase the mini version in the to-go section of Sephora. It lasts forever and a little goes a long way!

Whether I’m applying eye shadow and mascara, or just mascara, I’m always reaching for the same two products: Ilia’s Limitless Lash Mascara and the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette. I keep things pretty basic and normally stick to the eyeshadow shades charmer, flower child, and funny girl to give myself an easy, breezy look. Honestly, more often than not, I’m just applying mascara quick unless it’s date night!
