Merit Beauty Review + My Favorite Products

merit beauty lipstick review

Even though my makeup routine doesn’t change much season to season, I always love trying new makeup brands and products. Best case scenario? They become staples in my routine. When it comes to makeup products, I don’t have any specific ingredients or formulas I look for. I just want good, effective products. If they are made with better-for-you ingredients, even better!

When Merit first launched, I was intrigued by the simplicity of the products. Not only are they committed to sustainability and clean beauty (yay!), they’re also committed to keeping your makeup routine as simple as possible. Sometimes we just need a little simplicity! Since the brand first launched, I’ve tried a majority of their products and have several in my everyday makeup routine. If you’v been wanting to try their products, this Merit beauty review will help you make a more informed purchase. Plus, I’m sharing my favorite Merit products!

Merit Beauty Review

About the Brand

Founded in 2021 by Katherine Power, Merit was founded with the goal of providing consumers with clean, well-edited beauty products that are approachable and easy to use. Power brought us a 5 minute makeup routine that makes getting ready each day incredibly easy no matter what your experience with makeup is.

Based out of Los Angeles, California, Merit offers the simple, well-edited essentials you need in your rotation. As of 2024, the brand offers 11 makeup products along with two brushes: the blending brush and the eyeshadow brush.

Merit Beauty Standard

Merit is a clean beauty brand and uses natural and lab-created non-toxic ingredients. They also meet the EU cosmetic standards as well as the Clean at Sephora brand standards. Merit also partnered with Biba de Sousa, a Hollywood esthetician, to ensure the brand’s formulas wouldn’t cause inflammation or be acne-triggering.

In addition to providing clean products, Merit also prioritizes sustainable packaging and tries to eliminate as much virgin plastic as possible from their products and operations. All of their packaging is recyclable, reusable, or biodegradable.

Merit is also a vegan, cruelty-free, and certified by Leaping Bunny.

My Favorite Products

Since I first tried Merit a few years ago, I’ve slowly tried almost all of their products and have several in my everyday makeup routine. But like all beauty brands, there are a few of their products that didn’t work for me and that’s okay! They have launched a few new products including the Great Skin Instant Glow Serum and Solo Shadow that I hope to try soon.

Out of the products I have tried, here are my favorites from the brand!

Flush Balm Cheek Color

This cream blush has microfine pigment powders, giving your cheeks the perfect amount of color! It has a satin finish and is extremely buildable, too. I wear shade Beverly Hills, which is the perfect soft peach to wear year-round. They recently launched the shade Stockholm, which is next on my ‘to try’ list from the brand. It’s a baby pink that gives you the perfect lit-from-within color for the spring and summer seasons.

Day Glow Highlighting Balm

I love a good highlighter, especially if it’s easy to apply (I’m no makeup expert!) which is why I love the Day Glow Highlighting Balm so much. It’s easy to swipe on and gives the perfect dewy, balmy look. I use the shade Cava to illuminate and add glow to my face when doing my everyday makeup routine.

Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick

Formulated with plant-derived squalane and sunflower seed oil, the Signature Lip hydrates your lips and offers long-lasting color. This lipstick gives a satin finish, is lightweight, and gives buildable coverage. I wear shade Baby but I’m eyeing the shade Millennial for spring and summer. Merit also just launched eight matte shades as well.

The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick

This complexion stick was designed to be a foundation-concealer hybrid, helping consumers cut down the number of products in your routine. I love that it can be used to cover up any redness or blemishes, but can also be used on your full face for the days you want to go for a no makeup makeup look. It’s also extremely buildable and easy to apply, which I love.

Brush No. 1 Blending Brush

If you’re looking for an easy, straightforward brush, this one is great for blending your foundation and any cheek products. It’s a denser brush but the bristles are gentle on the skin! The handle is also made with 100% recyclable aluminum.

I personally use the blending brush for my highlighter and blush, as well as with the Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick.

Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara

While I love this mascara for every day, I was really interesting in trying Clean Lash after loving Merit’s other products. It’s a great clean mascara that gives fluffy butterfly-like lashes and is extremely easy to wash off. I do like it and will be keeping it in my arsenal for no makeup makeup days, I won’t be using this as my primary mascara since I like a more dramatic look.

Where to Purchase Merit Beauty

Merit is exclusively sold directly through their website and in stores and online at Sephora. When shopping directly on the Merit website, the signature bag comes with your first purchase and you’ll get free shipping on orders over $40. The brand also has so many good sets at a discounted price if you’re interested in trying multiple different products from the brand!

While I don’t do a full face of Merit makeup every day, I do think their products are all really great, especially if you’re crunched on time. Over the last few years, they’ve launched a handful of new products (some of which I still need to try!) and I’m excited to see how the brand evolves over time and what other products they launch.
