Mastering the Front Tuck

how to front tuck a button up

Whether I’m wearing a button-up, t-shirt, chunky sweater, there’s a 98% chance I have it tucked in in one way or another. It’s safe to say, tucking is my jam. When tucking, there are three ways I typically tuck in order to elevate any outfit – front tuck, twist tuck, and French tuck.

1. The Twist Tuck

The twist tuck is the best front tuck hack I’ve ever seen and produces a perfect tuck, every time. Ideal for essentially any style top, the twist tuck also helps make tucking in tops that have more fabric easier than ever. (Shout out to Jess Keys for sharing this genius tucking hack!)

Getting The Look: Whether you’re styling a tunic, button-up, or sweater, you’ll want to gather all of the fabric in front of you and twist it like you would a ponytail before doing a ballerina bun. Once twisted, tuck the “tail” into your bottoms!

2. The Classic Front Tuck

The OG of front tuck’s, the classic front tuck is easy, looks great, and is the tuck I turn to most often. Sometimes I even get a little wild and do the tuck off-center for a more casual look.

Get The Look: Regardless of the fabric you’re wearing, nicely pull it all down so it is covering your pant waist. Grab the section that you will be tucking and gently pull it up and tuck it into your pants. Easy as that! Once you tuck, pull the section up a bit and adjust the sides so it has that easy, effortless look.

3. The French Tuck

The French tuck is a great way to elevate any look, especially when you’re wearing a button-up! Think of this one as a seam-to-seam tuck that channels your inner french girl!

Get The Look: Simply pull your top down over the waist of your pant and start tucking the front of your top into your pants, seam to seam, leaving the “tail” of your shirt sticking out!

I like the twist tuck because then there isn’t a ton of fabric hanging out in back – especially with skirts!
