Madewell Leggings Review

madewell leggings review

Madewell has been one of my favorite brands for years and is one that is my go-to for wardrobe basics. When they launched their athleisure brand, MWL, a few years ago I knew I had to give it a try. From cozy sweatshirts and loungewear to sports bras and leggings, there are so many incredible pieces part of the MWL collection. I finally got my hands on a pair of leggings during one of the Madewell sales and have put them to the test against my beloved Lululemon leggings. Have you been thinking about getting a pair? Today I’m finally sharing my full Madewell leggings review!

Madewell Legging Review

Whether you are a lifelong Madewell shopper, have never tried the brand, or are just looking for a new pair of leggings, I’m breaking down everything you need to know about Madewell leggings so you can make an informed purchase. Also, in this review, I am specifically touching on my experience with the MWL High-Rise leggings.

What Sets Madewell Leggings Apart

Madewell leggings are made from their MWL Flex fabric, which was engineered with four-way stretch and is super soft, while still being sweat-wicking. During the design process, Madewell took what they’ve learned from their bestselling jeans and used that information to craft a legging everyone will love for low-impact, high-flexibility workouts, and for everyday wear. Madewell’s leggings also offer UPF 40+ sun protection, chafe-free flatlock seams, a hidden ID pocket, and are made from recycled plastic bottles.

While most of Madewell’s clothing comes in a very extensive size range, their leggings only come in sizes XXS through XXL in straight sizing and up to 4X in plus.

I typically wear a size 28 in Madewell’s denim and in the MWL high-rise leggings, I wear a size medium.

Since launching the MWL collection, the MWL high-rise leggings have come in various inseam lengths including 23, 25, and 27 inches. Currently, their leggings are only available in a 25-inch inseam, which for most individuals hits right around the ankle bone. In the images above, I am wearing the 23-inch inseam (typically wear a petite in Madewell’s jeans).

Price Point

The MWL high-rise leggings are $75, which is much lower than similar options from Lululemon and Athleta. There are often colors on sale for as low as $30 and the entire MWL collection is almost always included in any sales that Madewell runs throughout the year.

Madewell MWL Bottom Styles

In addition to the high-rise leggings, the MWL collection also includes a flare legging, skinny joggers, rib flare leggings, side-slit athletic skirt, and biker shorts. In addition to these athletic bottoms, the MWL collection also features several sweatpants, cargo shorts, sports bras, one-piece sets, and so much more.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I do really like these leggings but don’t recommend getting them in a light color. I feel as though you can see my underwear line and the outline of my body much more than a darker color would. Other than that, I’m really impressed with the leggings. The fabric is much thicker and more forgiving than I would have expected, especially for the price. The waistband is thick and I find that they don’t budge much, especially when I’m active. The 23-inch inseam is the perfect length for my petite legs when wearing sneakers. I’ll definitely be giving the flare leggings a try, too!
