Locally Owned Shops to Visit in Boston

Let’s face it: supporting small, locally-owned shops is the jam. Supporting the smaller guys is what community is about and luckily, Boston has a lot of that. Local shit makes people happy so share local shit with your friends, your family, and of course, the Internet.

Are you a local or visiting the city for the first time? Here are some of the amazing locally owned shops to visit in Boston!

Niche Plant Shop

Niche Plant Shop

Out of all of my favorite spots in the city, Niche is hands down my favorite. I mean, who can say no to some cute plants?! Chris and I recently attended one of their workshops a few weeks ago to make succulent arrangements and it was so much fun! With two locations (one in Cambridge, one in the South End), it’s easy to get to either shop no matter where you are to chat plants, learn more about the local makers, and pick up a new plant baby or two!

Chris and I recently got a monstera and the most beautiful cactus that like to make surprise appearances over on Instagram every once in awhile.

See more photos of Niche here.

For Now

One of my new favorite spots in the city, For Now gives brands that prominently e-commerce based a place to showcase their products in a brick and mortar setting so they can be felt and touched. For Now is located in the heart of the Seaport but also just opened their second location on Nantucket. Can’t make it into one of the stores? Almost all of the products are available to shop online and For Now links to the retailer’s website as well so you can shop everything else they have!

To get an idea of what you’ll find in For Now……..

The Incubator carries everything from jewelry to household items (think candles, hand towels, and soaps) and shoes, clothing, and some fun ways to continue that sustainable lifestyle you’ve been itching to incorporate into your life.

Neatly Nested

Are you one of those types of people that simply can’t say no when faced with an item for your home that’s available for purchase? Me and you BOTH. Located in South Boston, Neatly Nested is fill to the brim with everything you need for your home, the best gifts for your husband, your bff, and even the newest addition to your family. I guarantee that you won’t be able to leave Neatly Nested without SOMETHING. And the team – They’re AMAZING!

Rouvalis Flowers

Since the first time I stepped into Rouvalis Flowers a few weeks ago, I’ve probably been in a solid five times since. When you know, you know. Once Chris and I move, I know that we will be frequent flyers of the shop. With everything from gorgeous flower arrangements to plants and accessories, the shop has everything you could need to prepare for a dinner party or gift a friend that has had a rough day.

Olives & Grace

I feel like everyone under the sun follows Olives and Graces on Instagram and has fallen in love with Sofi and her amazing spirit. From bringing the community together to creating a safe space, Olives & Grace supports emerging makers (food, gifts, and more!) that made the scary decision to leave their 9-5 and do what fuels their soul. Chris and I stopped in this past weekend and picked up the cutest pair of moccasins and teething necklace to send to his cousin and girlfriend for their little one coming in June!

So true. Here in NYC there are still TONS of locally owned shops. In my neighborhood alone (Park Slope Brooklyn) there are some great clothing stores like Bird, Kiwi, Brooklyn Industries, Otto…I could list so many more!
