Since moving to the city a few years ago, sneakers have quickly become my go-to shoe of choice. Whether I’m running errands, meeting a friend for coffee, or walking the dog, they’re so much comfier than other options in my closet. Wearing sneakers and jeans/shorts/leggings can get old very quickly and I know that wear sandals with my dresses looks 10 times better than sneakers, but when I know I’ll be walking a lot, sandals don’t always cut it. This is what really pushed me to lean into the trend of wearing sneakers with my favorite dresses. I’m all about practicality and this combo is practical and cute!
How to Style a Dress with Sneakers
It’s all about balance when styling a dress with sneakers but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative! White sneakers are always the easiest to style with dresses but you can also go with something more colorful like this pair of New Balance sneakers. I also love juxtaposition when it comes to styling sneakers; a silky slip dress and a pair of platform Converse are a perfect duo!
When in Doubt, Wear White Sneakers
If you’re just dipping your toes into the trend and are feeling a little outside of your comfort zone, start with a great pair of white sneakers. They seriously go with everything. A classic white sneaker such as a Ked, pairs so well with mini dresses, maxi dresses, and midi dresses, whether they’re on the dressier side (hellllo silk!) or more casual like this dress.
Add a Pop of Color
If you’re wearing a neutral colored dress, opt for a pop of color with your sneakers! Since so many of my dresses are neutral, this is one of my favorite ways to wear sneakers and dresses. Plus, this dress just asks for some color! If you love neutrals as much as I do, try incorporating some color into your look with a fun pair of sneakers. It adds a statement to your outfit while still being comfortable!
If You’re Wearing a Short Dress, Try a High-Top Sneaker
If you’re trying to pair a shorter dress with sneakers, try a high-top style! I’m not a huge fan of high-top sneakers but they look SO good with mini dresses and it balances them out so nicely. Naturally, I love a good Converse high-top if I had to have my pick, but there’s a lot of great options out there.
